Koko in the snow
We we are tasked with finding a fixing grammatical issues and finding a suitable font for the Koko in the snow book.
After fixing the grammatical issues in the text I started to look for a good font to go with the art style.
I shortened it to four fonts and looked at how each one looked with the art style of the book, I picked chunky felt.
Because it fitted the soft and round design of the book, it also looked very child friendly and was very easy to read.
I then started to fill out the pages with the text and added the font to them and also picked a suitable colour for each page.
I had to be careful with the position and size of the text because since this was going to be a book it would be split in two and I didn't want the text get cut off or be completely unreadable.
After that was done I had to make a front cover for the book.
I didn't want to over complicate things so I grabbed the very first image and modified it.
I added the name of the book and the authors name at the bottom, I then added the main character Koko after cutting out her body in photoshop and turning her into a TIFF file, I then resized her and added some snow to her feet I made using the pen tool, I did it in order to make it look smooth and natural and so that it looked like she was standing on some ground instead of floating.

Portfolio Questions
1. What research do you think necessary for a project such as this?
There was a lot layout and overall aesthetic design research.
2. How did you go about researching for the project?
For the first part I looked at what other people have made with their books and how they were laid out. I then looked at different styles and I actually got inspired by the game Orwell's design.
3. As evidence for the External Modifier, how do you think it best to present the research in order to show them what you found out about Page Layout and Design?
I think screen shots, voice recordings and video recordings are quite solid in terms of presenting research.
4. How has the research fed into your design?
Well I used the design of how one of the books was quite colour coded, so I did it in a more rainbow like appearance in my book, I also used the aesthetic design of OrWell.

5. Do you think your design is right for the audience you are hoping to view your work? If yes, say why it is. If not, say why isn't it and what you might do to rectify it.
Yes. Because in my opinion its very abstract and creative, and this book is all about designing something original and what too look out for when making it.
6. Did you have a plan of what you were going to do for the project?
Yes, the book was planned out with the layout the topics in mind as well as how many pages there were going to be.
7. Were you able to stick to your plan or did you have to change it as you worked through the project?
I sticked to my plan constantly but I did change one thing, one of the topics was longer than anticipated whilst the one that was expected to be longer was short, but overall we still achieve the same amount of pages and information.
8. How well did you edit and process the text in the product?
I have double checked the text and have made sure everything was proof read before hand so that everything made sense and there wasn't a typo or mistake of some sort.
9. Which typeface choices did you make to include in the project?
OCR A STD was the typeface that I chose for this book since the overall style was very abstract and the style of the text was a perfect fit.
10. Was the layout you devised based on any particular compositional device/s (e.g. the golden section).
No not really the layout was my idea from the start.

Editing and processing text
I was tasked with editing several coulombs of text (they don't mean anything) and I had to edit them whilst following these instructions:
A.
Was fairly easy to edit. I first turned all of the text into bold using the panel next to it, then I turned some of the worlds into italics and then I changed the size of all the characters there to 16p.
B.
I first selected all of the text by double clicking the text then I moved to the leading section of the panel and put the leading of all the text to 24p.
C.
I first selected only the first two words of the text and moved to the tracking section of the panel and set the tracking to 200.
D.
I then moved on to the kerning of the the two letters of the first word in the text at the very beginning.
I placed the cursor right between the two letters "O" and "L" and set the kerning up to -299 so that they looked like they were overlapping.
E.
I selected all of the text in the coulomb and then set the character rotation section of the panel to 180.
F.
I selected all of the text in the panel by double clicking and pressed the "All caps" button on the panel.
1. How do you think the choice of typeface can affect the audience reaction to an important piece of information? (on a health warning for example).
Answer: If the typeface is too difficult to read in case of a emergency this could mean death or for example if the "no smoking" warning on a gas station is written in some fancy text you may just discard it as a advertisement and not notice it.
2. When looking at text (this might be in a magazine, on a web site or on your own presentation you are currently preparing), what do you think the effect of having greater space (leading) between the lines of type might be?
Answer: It could make it look very good and stylish but it could also make it completely unreadable to the point of being useless.
3. What do you think happens when viewing text if there is too much space between the letters (tracking)? How does it affect the audience (the people reading).
Answer: It could make it very hard to read and would take a lotto time to read just one word. They also take up a lot of space.
4. How can you bring emphasis to certain words/lines in a piece of text to establish an hierarchy?
Answer: You can make them in all caps, bold, or italics (if you want to be fancy). I would recommend bold since they stand out more and if you separate them from the rest by some very noticeable colour like red then you will see it easily.
5. What is the difference between the terms kerning and tracking?
Answer: Tracking is when you want to create a even and consistent spacing between the letters in a word.
Kerning is when you want to make a very detailed spacing between two letters in a word.

Illustrator tutorial.
This time we were shown a tutorial on several features of Illustrator.
For example this one showed us how to use color swatches and the eye dropper tool.
This one showed us how to switch colors on multiple buildings at a time as well as creating new ones.
